WASTE REDUCTION
WASTE REDUCTION COMMITMENT
We do not allow any packaging made of glass, plastic, plastic coated paper, foil or styrofoam at these events. This includes plastic bottles and metal cans. That means you must not sell any water in bottles or soda or other drinks in cans.
This also means every single disposable container, plate, cup, lid, straw, sample cup and plate, and all disposable cutlery at the market is certified fully compostable. All of this waste will be collected together and taken to a composting facility. Every vendor must participate in this.
Further, we encourage you where possible to replace even compostable or bio-plastics with paper or similar materials (such as bamboo, wood, hay or sugar cane (bagasse)) as those are more sustainable and less environmentally harmful.Any drinks you sell must be served in compostable cups with (if applicable) compostable lids and straws. These drinks must be made by you. In addition to our rules above, the city and state parks we operate in do not allow any glass bottles at all.
COMPOSTABLES SUPPLIERS
We have identified a few companies who have certified products; we encourage you to shop from Eco-Products, World Centric or greenhome for compostable items that carry BPI certification and/or meet ASTI standards for compostability. These qualifications should be listed in the descriptions of products you're buying. We don’t require you to shop from these suppliers, as long as you can find BPI certified compostable products they’ll be acceptable to us.
These requirements do not yet apply to packaged products designed for the customer to take home with them.
